Williamsburg with the Poulton's

We were the lucky recipients of a visit from the Poulton's! Devin's parents and Aileen came out to visit. We love having them here. When I tell the kids Grandma and Grandpa are coming they say "Grandma and Grandpa with Aileen or Grandma and Grandpa with Katey?" I guess we have a few more things to teach them.

I thought a great place to visit, where I have been told multiple times by multiple people to go, is Williamsburg. I had never been before and really didn't know much about it which was my downfall... as a host I should know more about these things! It really wasn't as I imagined. I will say it was interesting... the kids really liked the exhibit about separating the seeds from the cotton, and watching how they would spin it to make string and put it on the loom to make cloth... walking around the old town was a full day's activity. But I'm not sure it was worth the three hour drive or the admission price. I thought it would be awesome, because I was told it would be awesome and that I would love it (!), especially before Christmas with all the special events... but there was an extra charge for each additional thing, which we did not do (my kids wouldn't have appreciated those things anyway).

Mostly we did a lot of walking and dealt with kids that were hungry and tired. And I cannot believe I forgot a stroller, so I carried Sawyer asleep on my shoulder for an hour. At the end of the day we missed the bus by only a minute, we watched it drive off, but the buses come every 10 minutes. Bridger counted to 60 ten times, and the bus came right on the mark... which I thought was impressive, for Bridger and the bus system.

Anyway, it might have been better had I known a thing or two about it, but it could have been worse. We were able to spend the day with great company, so it wasn't bad at all.

Something a little closer to home was the gun museum or rather the National Firearms Museum. This one I thought was definitely worth the drive... 25 minutes away and free to get in. So many guns I don't know anything about, but I was with a good crowd who did know a thing or two. There was Annie Oakley's gun there, some super tiny guns about the size of a paper clip, and some bigger ones. John Wayne was there too!

Sure love these Poulton's! Thanks for coming to visit!
