I wanted to take the kids on one more camping trip before it got too cold. Bridger had been begging, begging, begging to go camping and fishing. So, with the long Columbus Day weekend we took the opportunity. I've been wanting to try Cunningham Falls State Park, they have hiking, fishing, camping, and swimming in the warmer months. Devin couldn't stay because he had to work, but he did make the hour drive with us, helped set up camp, ate dinner and s'mores with us, and helped me get the kids tucked in before he drove back home to a warm bed.
| I am so lucky to be married to this handsome man! |
We went for a short hike. Sawyer wanted to run, and Myra couldn't make her legs walk so they switched places and were both happy.
| Tiny waterfall, I bet it's better in the spring. |

There we had a problem. We remembered to bring Devin's fishing vest, but we forgot the pole. Again, I was tempted to just drive home and call it good enough, but going fishing was on the top of Bridger's to-do list and I knew we needed to find a way to get it done. So, I went to ACE Hardware and bought a fishing pole. I didn't know how to assemble it so I asked the cashier if he could help me. He was super obliging and got me all set up. And we went fishing✔!
I think it still counts even when we didn't catch anything. Everyone had a turn holding the pole and casting in the line. I was glad for the seaweed actually because, while Bridger was fishing, several times he felt the tug of the line, unfortunately the fish all got away!
After having kind of a disappointing time with the fish, we hopped in the car and drove toward home. But we had one more stop on the way: South Mountain Creamery. Ice-cream, cows, chickens... Here was the high point of our trip. As we ate our ice-cream we watched all the momma cows being milked. Next we wandered over to see the calves and we even got to bottle feed them. There was also a chicken coop, and my kids had no fear of chickens or getting dirty as they ran around catching them. Such a fun farm and the perfect way to cement happy memories into our trip!
And the results are... SUCCESS! The kids talk about the trip like they loved every minute. We got to cross some very important items off our list and we came home safe and well! But it was in coming home that we faced the ugly tragedy... my poor kitchen. 😕
