After failing miserably with my pot garden last year I was reluctant to spend money for more dwarf plants this year. My friend Emily said she had extra garden space that I could use so I thought I'd give that a try. You may not believe after seeing my dead plants last year, the amazing jungle-like growth I am getting this year, so I have pictures to prove it.
This is my side of the garden. When I planted it I did have rows and open spaces to walk between plants. Not anymore. I don't really know how to explain it. When I planted my squash I know it said to space them four feet apart but I didn't have that much space and I thought it would be fine. I have never seen squash plants get SO BIG! It has jumped the rail road ties we have as the line between the grass and the garden and it keeps trying to grow into the grass, so I have to keep throwing it back in.
I planted 6 tomato plants (3 of them are cherry), 3 peppers, 1 cucumber, 1 cantaloupe, 1 watermelon, 1 cabbage, 2 crooknecks, 1 zucchini, 1 butternut squash, and a row of beans. Each time I go back the plants are even bigger. The only problem is I have no room to walk between plants so picking is tricky. I think Emily ordered in some kind of miracle grow soil. I have already picked zucchini, crookneck, cucumbers, and some tomatoes and a pepper!
This is what grew over the weekend while we were at Trek. They grew a little too huge.
This year my garden is a success!!
