Meatball Reflections

Certain smells, tastes, songs, have the ability to transport me back to some other time or some other place. Before I moved to Virginia, the smell of tobacco smoke and the damp feel of humid air meant we were going on vacation somewhere, maybe hanging at an airport in Hawaii. The other day, just mixing up some meatballs created one of those throwback memories for me.

There I was, standing in my kitchen mixing meatballs, two years ago and nine months pregnant. Maybe it was the strain of mixing the Parmesan cheese into the ground beef, but I cramped and fell to the floor. After a few seconds I stood back up, added a few more ingredients, and buckled to the floor again. Bridger was very concerned. Sure these contractions would go away within a few minutes, I didn't want to alarm Devin, but did send him a "by the way... I'm having some contractions... I'm sure its nothing to be worried about" text. Then before the hour was up, Devin was home and we were on our way to the hospital. Twenty minutes after arriving at the hospital, little Myra was born.

As I was mixing meatballs, these were my memories. Bridger and Myra had their due dates only one day apart. So it is strange to be here in February, pregnant, but only half way there. I keep feeling like it is time to have this baby. This is our baby season! I guess I will be stuck excitedly anticipating baby Boon for at least 15 more weeks.

(Boon: baby's name while in the womb. Devin's name choice. Don't get your hopes up too high though. Bridger's womb name was Charlie).
