I have gotten to teach Joy School all of this month! I was in charge of Unit 1, and honestly, I am glad that tomorrow is my last day teaching for a while! It has been fun, tiring too. There are four crazy boys in my group, who have a lot of fun together, but they are all so different! Some of them get really into certain activities, while others have no interest at all in them. The hardest thing probably, is keeping everyone with me and on task.
Bridger loves Joy School! He loves that his friends get to come over to our house (twice a week). He loves looking at the weather chart and the calendar. He loves running and playing. He even likes singing songs and reading stories. He likes all of it!
I like that it has made me more mindful of teaching Bridger all the time. I am getting better at explaining things (and he loves it!) The first ultra sound technician I went to, when I was prego with Bridger didn't talk at all, she didn't do any explaining, didn't tell me what anything I was looking at was, and when I asked her questions, she told me she needed it quiet so she wouldn't miss anything. Boo. Then I switched doctors, and the technician I went to after that was so great at explaining every little thing! She told me what she was looking at, and why, and what is should be... she was great! And I felt way more informed and left knowing everything that was going on. Strange comparison, but sometimes, I think about that, when I'm reminding myself how I should teach Bridger.
So remembering my ultra sound technician and inspired by Joy School, I try to teach and explain everything. We go on a walk and we use our 5 senses (that we learned about in Joy School) to identify trees and birds, squirrels and acorns, signs and houses, and anything else! Then, he quizzes me right back! Unit 1 is on the body, so we talk a lot about being healthy! The best way for Devin and I to get Bridger to eat is to talk about how it helps him grow, and he wants to be big like Dad! There is also a lot of muscle flexing that goes on, while we are eating our bites, to see if his muscles are growing ;).

But the true joy of Joy School will come next week, when I'm not teaching ;) .
